Why I Got Involved - Sam Flynn

From a young age I've always had the mentality of 'I can do anything I want to do'. It is this that led me to start my first business at 24 years old and my second at 25 years old, despite the doubts of those around me!

I believe this mentality can often come about from adversity and my childhood definitely fits into that bracket! Having grown up with an alcoholic father who earnt no money and spent some time in prison, and living off my mother's part-time cleaning wage, I didn't have a similar life to that of my school friends. And yet, I always achieved more than they did. I was top of the class, my school's student of the year and a straight A student. I knew what I wanted in adulthood was a life different to that of my childhood, particularly for my own children when I am blessed with them.

I am one of the happiest people I know! I am deliriously in love with my husband (cheesy as that sounds) and can't believe how lucky I am! I'm achieving new things every day and love being my own boss!

For this reason, I really wanted to get involved with VDay in some way when I was told about it. The social media side is perfect for me (this being my second business!) and I really hope I can help make VDay a success!!

So, please please please go buy your tickets so we can help more women achieve their dreams!

Welcome to... The Birdhouse Fund Presents V Day!

On the evening of 8th March 2011 the birdhousefund.org will lead a major event by staging a performance of The Vagina Monologues with a cast of real, local women at the prestigious Great Hall at Manchester Townhall. This groundbreaking show will be followed by a high profile debate on the ever present violence and exploitation of women including issues around trafficking, abuse, rape, slavery and early sexualisation of our young girls. This debate will raise the issues we face globally and will also highlight issues nearer to home in the UK and Manchester. We are inviting politicians, high profile academics and feminists to participate.

Be great if you're able to come along. Click here for tickets!

Victoria Wood sent the below message of support for the Birdhouse Fund Presents V Day:

‘Just a little message to wish everyone all the best with the Vagina Monologues (though I do hate that word " monologues") and well done to everyone who's been brave enough to take part. Please don't worry if you don't have any acting experience - I have seen the Vagina Monologues done by people with shed loads of acting experience, and believe me - they weren't that great!

Happy Hundredth Birthday to International Women's Day and my best wishes for a great show and a successful fund raiser for The Birdhouse Fund, a fantastic cause.’

Don't miss out on this fantastic show and what is bound to be a thought-provoking event! And keep an eye on this blog for guest blogs from those involved!
